A Springboard to Gratitude

by montejosmemorials on June 25, 2014

I don’t know why it still surprises me when God works how He does! But sometimes I am overwhelmed with how He shows me his direction for me.

I was challenged in a group I am a part of to do some kind of 10 day challenge on my Facebook page. My thought process was working in essential oils, since that’s what I tend to share about the most. It seemed like God had something different in mind.

Gratitude kept coming to me and I just haven’t been able to shake it off. I am reading a book called One Simple Act Discovering the Power of Generosity by Debbie Macomber. For me it’s kind of a bathroom book, because it has short sections that can be read quickly, but wow!

The first chapter talks about The Springboard to Gratitude. She has several short true stories about how people used gratitude to get them through really tough situations and even in her own life how God used life’s trials in unexpected ways for her good as she began to write down her gratitude for seemingly negative things in life, her troubles, pains, and losses.

That was my first confirmation of making my 10 day challenge about gratitude. Then as I woke up this morning and was still kind of questioning whether this was the right thing to do the challenge on, here is a part of my devotion reading from Jesus Calling. "Bring me the gift of thanksgiving, which opens your heart to rich communion with Me. Because I am God, from whom all blessings flow, thankfulness is the best way to draw near to Me. Sing praise songs to Me; tell of My wondrous works. Remember that I take great delight in you; I rejoice over you with singing."

So I am not going to question. The 10 Day Challenge begins on gratitude!

My next thing was what do I call it? I have seen other challenges and did not want to be a copycat. As I began to pray, I felt like God gave me the word springboard to use as she had in the book. I looked up the meaning and this is what it said.

Springboard – strong, flexible board from which someone can jump in order to gain added impetus when performing a dive or a gymnastic movement.

a thing that lends impetus or assistance to a particular action, enterprise, or development.

Well then I had to look up impetus.

Impetus – the force that makes something happen or happen more quickly.

After reading these, I really came to love the idea that our gratitude can be used as a springboard or a force that propels us forward! The name A Springboard to Gratitude was born.

"The act of gratitude reminds us that God is worthy of our trust" Debbie Macomber

Here’s a great story to get us started thinking of the things we can be grateful for from Corrie Ten Boom’s book about how God used fleas.

I will start by saying that I am grateful for how God speaks to me, even in the midst of wanting to do things my way instead of His.

I pray these next 10 days will be a blessing to you!

Hi Joyce, I’m your neighbor at Joy Dare today. I began my blog Counting My Blessings seven years ago to hold myself accountable to noticing God’s movements in my life. Gratitude changes everything as it changes our attitude and the way we look at life. Good stuff!

I love this idea — the springboard we use can also in turn become a springboard for others. It never ceases to amaze me how gratitude can completely change my heart and attitude. I am so glad you linked this up to SDG.

It’s so true! Sometimes it’s hard to get started, but after, it changes everything for the good. ๐Ÿ™‚

I keep a grateful journal which has been a great blessing to me. A journal to teach humility and contentment. Thank you for the encouragement to practice gratefulness and for sharing it at Monday’s Musings. Have a great week.

Journal’s are a blessing, especially when we go back later and see all that God has done. You have a great week as well!
